Grateful Dead Books LLC (GDB) is both a friendly website and a full service bookstore. We started with an idea of trying to merge our love for books with our lifelong affair with the music of the Grateful Dead... and beyond. We started selling books in 2000 and founded Grateful Dead Books LLC in 2007. We created the GDB Facebook page in the Fall of 2009 being the first to do so. It is our goal to be one of the best destination places online for our old friends and the new ones we will make along the way. If you love cool Grateful Dead themed merchandise, good conversation and incredible music downloads, than we think we are a comfortable place to relax at. We also have a sister Facebook site Grateful Dead Books Hall of Fame (GDHoF) for the full Dead dose. They specialize in rare daily GD and JGB concert recordings and also post free movies on Saturdays. The GDB Team consists of six hard working administrators with hundreds of shows between them who love to share their own stories and experiences. We hope you enjoy the ride and we love you all. Please help support GDB. A portion of every sale is donated to the Atlanta Humane Society. Thank You.

Grateful Dead Books
I'm glad you are here and reading this now. I am Hamlin (GDB - SE aka Boss) the founder and owner of Grateful Dead Books LLC way back in 2007. I am one of the main contributors and post mostly Grateful Dead news and shows and lively human interest stories and maybe even some boring literary stuff. Another one of my chief responsibilities is to officiate the contests that we do on Facebook. New merchandise is given away to our fans on a regular basis. I have really enjoyed doing that and plan to continue giving away awesome free stuff. I saw the Grateful Dead play live from the Spring Tour 1983 thru the Spring Tour 1993. My first show was at the Greensboro Coliseum and my last show was at the Omni. I made the journey and bought the ticket and feel very lucky to have done so. Those were some of the best days I have ever experienced. By starting GDB I think I somehow have once again tapped into this rich outlet of creativity and discussion. It now seems just like it was.... and I had thought those days were forever gone. I attribute this to some good fortune or perhaps a psychic seed planted one night long ago under the stars while listening to the sweet tunes. The music has never stopped. Who knows if it ever will. We hope you enjoy your time here with us. It has been a great ride so far. I live in Atlanta and like to travel , watch good movies and of course listen to the music play. See you at GDB online!!!

That's Andy, aka The Dude or GDB-West, and he's our San Francisco Admin. Known for being up on the current live music scene in the Bay Area and pulling from a deeper level of musical experience than most, he is our Jam Band guy. Originally from Florida, and experiencing most of his Dead shows on the East Coast Tour swings, he has been a certified Deadhead since 1972. He will also be the guy who collects and shares a lot of the artwork and photographs randomly being displayed. On the book side of things, GDB-West has a professional background as a bookseller and as a former retail manager for Borders Books & Music; he is an avid reader though he admits he cannot be nailed down to a single genre. Beer posts, baseball posts, pretty hippie chick posts...yeah, he's usually to blame for those and yet he has no shame. His redeeming quality is that he doesn't take himself too seriously so neither should you; and the man can dance like a mofo!

Hello, My name Is Karen~GDB-SEPA~. I am the new kid on the Block at Grateful Dead Books. I am An East Coast Transplant from So Cal, for 5 years now, I love all kinds of music and have seen many , many bands. I was lucky enough to have older bros help shape some of my music taste and even luckier to have been able to have gone to my first Grateful Dead concert when I was 14 in 1976. I am the mother of two, have two cats and a dog and a wonderful boyfriend. I majored in Broadcasting and had a really sweet slot in college radio, and worked for a brief period at KLOS in Los Angeles. With luck in the new year to come, I will be on the air somehow - maybe internet radio. I love sharing music and talking about it with others.

GDB - NEPA (aka John) - As a young boy growing up in New Jersey, I had two Aunts that were teenyboppers. So I got all the hit 45's about two weeks after they came out, since they were no longer popular at that point. My collection ranged from Bill Haley to Lead Belly. As I grew into the 60's, folk music really attracted me: first, The Kingston Trio, then Phil Ochs, and of course Dylan. September 1966 is when I first got on the Bus. A friend's sister just arrived from California with some reel-to-reels that would forever change me - Live Grateful Dead - music like I had never heard before. The Sound gave forth such magic that I had to have more of this new West Coast Sound: The Fish, Airplane, Incredible String Band and so many more. When The Fillmore East opened its doors, I was there.

As the 60's closed, the Anti-Vietnam War Movement was in full swing and I was there. White Panthers, SDS and Weathermen - I was with them; hung out in NYC with Abbie Hoffman & Jerry Rubin, met Phil Ochs in Vermont and he taught me my first three chords, but The Dead were always in my head.

Worked at many different jobs in many different states thru the years (Roadie, Pipeline Laborer etc.), but for the last 32 years have been a Land Surveyor - a career that has allowed me to see many parts of the natural world that I would never have had the chance to see otherwise - and to be one of the first to set locations for an experimental technology today know as GPS. I now live outside of a small town (Shickshinny) in Northeast Pennsylvania with my wife Jeanie, and my two Golden Retrievers (Jake & Jinger). I enjoy watching silent films (Harold Lloyd my favorite). I also have been (for the past 20 years) writing a book of short stories. It's almost done and I'm thinking about showcasing it on GDB.

Hey Now, GDB-Mtn here (a.k.a Carl) ~ I’m the newest addition to the group. I’m a native of Chicago and now living in a small mountain community in Colorado. Thanks to my piano playing Pops, I grew up with a lot of Jazz and Blues live in the living room or on the radio or playing records. Music was always playing in our house. He used to drag us kids to see the likes of Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, and Ella Fitzgerald as well as many others. As a teen I had my favorites like Zepplin and Pink Floyd until a friend turned my on to the Dead. Once I really understood this opened ended flow of musical brilliance, I was hooked. My first show was at the Uptown Theater in 0. After that I caught almost 70 shows all over the country, up until Vegas in 5. Alpine Valley seemed like home for a period until I came out to see the Dead at Red Rocks in 3then 4and 5. Between Red Rocks and the ski slopes I was hooked on Colorado. I use to collect bootlegs, then it switched to CD’s, and now all that’s in a box somewhere in my garage. Between my 60gb IPOD and everything that’s available online, those boxes will remain where they are collecting dust. I’ve also been working with computers since the early 80’s. It’s always paid the bills and allowed me to hit the road several times a year to see shows and explore. I’m recently divorced and have both of my step kids living with me, our 2 dogs and 2 cockatiels. And I have an artistic streak that landed me a private art school for a few years. It was interesting and I learned quite a bit but ultimately it wasn’t my gig. I still mess around from time to time with various mediums. But the best part about art school was listening to the stories of one of my teachers who was an old hippie that hung out with Dylan and Hendrix. So now after all these years I totally dig all of the bands that have spun off from the Grateful Dead. I have the utmost respect for all of these musicians that have enriched my life more than I could have ever guessed. Peace!

Amanda aka GDB-CHI. This is who I am. I fell in love with the boys at an early age. My first show was when I was a small child. Yes, I had the coolest mom ever! "Growing up Dead" might even be a good working title for my life story. I had a life changing experience at Alpine Valley when I actually met Jerry. And he took the time to smile, talk, and laugh with a gawky 14 year old kid from Illinois.

I love the music, but that isn't the only draw. The community of people I met and grew to love makes everything even better. I have family from tour. I still look forward to seeing all of them who are still on the road. And now with Facebook and other social media, communication in this community has become so much better! I share shows, or even just my favorite versions of songs. I can type a line from a song and know that it will be finished by friends. I can connect with others who share the love. I can update people in my area about upcoming events and shows, and learn of other events all over the country. I am quite loud sometimes when it comes to opinions, and I love that GDB often shares not just music but commentary on current events, policies, and politics.

I believe I would be able to contribute on so many levels! I know we are the die hards. The ones who talk about The Grateful Dead, not in passing, but in everyday life. We call the boys by their first names. We know our favorite versions by date and venue. We share the music and the vibes every chance we get. I'm here in Illinois, right near the border of Wisconsin. The scene, our shared scene, in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chitown are just amazing. Please keep me in mind if you feel that I might be a good fit! I will give it my best effort, share all kinds of Dead love, and send out tons of positivity!
